Facts Over Fear: Education is our birthright

Demonizing educators is a fascist playbook tactic. We mustn't allow this.

I have said many times that JD Vance is a bigger threat to our democracy than Trump will ever be because he comes across as “reasonable” and “measured” in how he delivers his incredibly radical and dangerous ideas. Take this video clip for instance:

Vance has made it very clear that he believes our educators are the enemy. You know who else has made this belief known in the past? Nazis. According to Britannica: The Nazi government attempted to control the minds of the young and thus, among other means, intruded Nazi beliefs into the school curriculum. A major part of biology became “race science,” and health education and physical training did not escape the racial stress. Geography became geopolitics, the study of the fatherland being fundamental.

Fascism has been sinking its teeth into American institutions for decades now, but it is no longer hiding its agenda or desire to dismantle public education, our children’s’ ability to think critically and form their own philosophies and wishes to exert its Christian white nationalist ideology onto all of us.

Their dream is to keep women subservient to men, forcing pregnancy onto us, ridding us of our identities and livelihoods. They want minorities to disappear — only to reappear in service to white men who will be in all positions of power and leadership both in public and private sectors.

The only way fascism can take root is if we let it. Now is the time to stand together in solidarity, against all forms of oppression. Because none of us are free until we all are. And freedom begins with a strong public education system.
