Teslas have more rights than women do.

Facts Over Fear: A woman needing lifesaving abortion care may bleed out and die, a horrific form of state-sanctioned violence, but “violence” against Teslas? Now that’s where they draw the line.

Face Our Fears: Capital is protected more than women’s lives in America

In more news you can’t make up if you tried, Axios reported that Tesla shares fell early today after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick used a TV appearance to urge Americans to buy stock in Elon Musk's car company.

Seriously? It is not normal for a cabinet secretary to recommend individual stocks, much less those linked to the president's closest adviser.

"I think, if you want to learn something on this show tonight, buy Tesla," Lutnick said on Fox News Wednesday evening. "It's unbelievable that this guy's stock is this cheap. It'll never be this cheap again….I mean, who wouldn't invest in Elon Musk? You gotta be kidding me."

No you’ve got to be kidding ME that we are at a point where our government officials are coming on TV to tell us which stocks to invest in because the richest man in the world is in total free fall.

Even JP Morgan analyst Ryan Brinkman threw shade in a research note last week saying that he “struggles to think of anything analogous in the history of the automotive industry, in which a brand has lost so much value so quickly."

Tesla shares are down 5% in the last five days, 35% in the last month and 42% so far this year. It’s only March.

But to make matters worse…not only are our government officials telling us what private stocks to buy (whatever happened to survival of the fittest?) but it seems as though Teslas have more rights than women do in this country.

USA Today reported that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed President Donald Trump by saying those who vandalize and violently attack Teslas are committing “domestic terrorism.” Bondi, the former Florida Attorney General who Trump nominated as the country’s next attorney general in November, made the comments in a statement on Tuesday evening. “The swarm of violent attacks on Tesla property is nothing short of domestic terrorism,” Bondi said in the statement.

According to Bondi, the Department of Justice has charged “several perpetrators” for attacking Teslas, including in cases that carry charges with five-year mandatory minimum sentences.

REALITY CHECK: A woman in need of lifesaving abortion care may bleed out in a parking lot, which is a horrific form of state-sanctioned violence but “violence” against Teslas?

Now that’s where they draw the line.

Seriously?

ProPublica found at least two women in Georgia who died after being unable to get either a legal abortion or timely medical care. Committees examining pregnancy-related deaths concluded that both were preventable.

And just on Monday, Texas arrested a midwife for allegedly providing illegal abortions and illegally operating a network of clinics in the Houston area, the state attorney general said.

So we have women dying for lack of medical care, a midwife arrested for providing medical care and doctors afraid to perform lifesaving operations for fear of imprisonment or losing their license…but we don’t call that domestic terrorism?

The call is coming from inside the house.

Domestic terrorism involves violent, criminal acts committed within a nation's borders, often by its own citizens, with the intent to intimidate, coerce, or influence the government or civilian population, typically driven by ideological goals.

Check, check, check. We have civilian groups who intimidated and influenced government to the point in which they got enough activist judges on the Supreme Court to tear down our right to privacy, to bodily autonomy, to control our destiny.

Roe was the basement. And now the floor has fallen out beneath our feet. We are spiraling and to add insult to injury (and imprisonment and death) the government is now saying that Teslas are more valuable and more worthy of protection than pregnant people in this country. We know that without reproductive freedom we cannot achieve economic, racial and gender justice.

I implore all of you to find a local reproductive rights group or organization in your community and activate. Volunteer with me at Planned Parenthood for Western PA if you live in the region. Not local? No problem. There are so many great organizations in the country fighting to restore our right to choose. DM me if you need suggestions.

Until next time, take care of yourselves and each other
